AP Top 16 Part II

The AP top 16 teams (thru regular season competition) were compared based on their finishes in the Power Points System and its percentage based equivalent to determine how often the AP's higher ranked team finished with a higher ranking in at least one the of two systems. By using both systems in this comparison, the idea is to approximate the results to be expected if all FBS teams had played an equal number of regular season games. The systems produce identical results if teams play equal game schedules. However, when teams play unequal game schedules, the Power Points System favor teams that play more games while its percentage based equivalent favors teams that play fewer games. The results listed below indicate how often teams ranked higher in the AP poll by a specific number of places ranked higher in at least one of the two systems. These results are for the past 33 seasons.

1-333 of 495
2-346 of 462
3-342 of 429
4-339 of 396
